Syllabus
This program curriculum follows the steps discussed in the incontinence management module available on this Web site. Each teleconference meeting will start at 2:00 p.m. (Eastern time) and last 1-1/2 hours. Homework and field work is expected to take 1-1/2 hours per month to complete.
January 9, 2008
Meeting 1: Introductions, overview of course
Assignments: Complete and submit to the project manager the pre-training quiz. Only then, read Overview and Step 1, “Conduct a basic resident evaluation”
February 13, 2008
Meeting 2: Discuss Overview and Step 1
Assignments:
Complete Step 1 assignment—due in 4 weeks.
Read Step 2, “Assess resident responsive to prompted voiding.”
March 12 , 2008
Meeting 3: Discuss Step 2: Assess Resident Responsiveness to PV
Assignments: Complete Step 2 assignment—due in 4 weeks.
Identify incontinent residents for a trial assessment—due in 4 weeks. Supervisors will have discretion in choosing a resident target group for the prompted voiding trial; however, we recommend that between 10 and 20 residents per facility be assessed in the trial.

Meeting 4: Discuss assessments, staffing, and staff training
Assignments: Administer Motivation/Preference Survey and implement a prompted voiding trial with identified residents. Determine who among them is responsive to the intervention. Optional: Continue to prompt responsive residents.—due in 4 weeks.Tally results on our data collection form (available from project manager Anna Rahman at rahmananna@yahoo.com).

Assignments: Train nurse aides to provide prompted voiding and implement program following training.
Read Step 4, “Conduct periodic control checks to maintain incontinence care quality.”

Meeting 6: Discuss ongoing monitoring, program maintenance
Assignments: Begin conducting control checks.
Submit progress report to project manager.
Hold mini-in-service with nurse aides to discuss control check results.
July 9, 2008
Meeting 7: Discuss program maintenance
Assignments: Continue conducting control checks.
Submit progress report to project manager.
Hold mini-in-service with nurse aides to discuss control check results.
August 13, 2008
Meeting 8: Discuss program maintenance, course evaluation
Assignments: Submit written evaluation to project manager.
Continue conducting control checks and discussing results with nurse aides in mini-in-services.
